An 100-square-foot mural titled “We are all Trayvon” debuted inside the Florida State Capitol building in Tallahassee on Friday.

Painted by Miami artist Huong, pictured above, the mural depicts a standing and uninjured George Zimmerman firing at a hooded figure whose face is replaced by a mirror. It also features a bleeding Martin Luther King Jr. and the phrase “we are all Trayvon” written in several different languages.

Huong is a Vietnamese activist affiliated with Dream Defenders, a group that is protesting the verdict that acquitted neighborhood watchmen Zimmerman of all charges in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

The Dream Defenders plan to persuade Florida Gov. Rick Scott to repeal “stand your ground” laws — which, incidentally, had nothing to do with the Zimmerman case. Sanford police chief Bill Lee told CNN that the case was purely a matter of self-defense from an investigative standpoint and the law played no role in the trial.

“We can change,” Huong said in an interview with ABC Action News. “But justice, that’s what we’re sticking for. Justice for you. Justice for me. Justice for everybody.”

President Barack Obama fanned the flames of the controversial national trial when days following the July 14 verdict, he said, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.” Huong plans to take the mural on a cross country road trip, hoping to eventually display it in Washington, D.C.

Huong’s  painting is part of the Peace Mural series, which includes a 50-foot mural that portrays the faces of historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Malcolm X and Mahatma Gandhi.
